IAN CLEMENT

Bio

Ian Clement – known foremost as frontman of power trio Wallace Vanborn – is also making a serious mark as a soulful singer-songwriter. In his solo work he conjures up a unique, intimate world. A deep soothing voice makes for music that is warm, moving and occasionally somber. Fans of singer- songwriters like Mark Lanegan, Dan Auerbach and Edward Sharpe are immediately drawn to his intriguing way of telling a musical story.

After recording his first solo album Drawing Daggers with Peter Obbels, Clement had the opportunity to record a new selection of numbers under the supervision of René Tinner. The veteran producer, renowned for his work with Can, has worked with major figures such as Lou Reed and George Harrison and his less-is-more approach proved the ideal formula for engineering Ian's pending solo album See Me In Synchronicity. Everything (except the vocals) were cut in single live takes at the ICP Studio in Brussels, so as to capture the music as organically as possible.

See Me In Synchronicity will be released on Amsterdam based label Dox Records in February 2019.
Starting this fall, various singles are planned and Ian Clement will be touring both solo and with a band to shine a light on the new material.

See Me In Synchronicity

See Me In Synchronicity is about recognizing yourself in other people and refers directly to events in Ian’s life. The album opens with ‘Hardly’, a song about having to grow up, letting go of your inner child and suddenly being propelled into adulthood. ‘Some Would Say’ describes how a sunny day like any other can instantly turn around when fate strikes and confronts a person head on – in Ian’s case, the day on which he found his father laying lifeless in bed.

Clement wrote ‘For a Rose’ for a muse, which blossomed into love. ‘Sidewinder’ is a tale about facing actual isolation in a difficult period. A dancer who was able to bring Ian’s texts and energy to life with her movement was the fascinating inspiration for the song ‘Dance Like Love’.

The album concludes with ‘Turtle & Crow’, a track written in the Californian desert of Joshua Tree, in which Ian describes how a crow gives him a dinosaur toy and then leads him on an interdimensional quest in the sand. A nebulous dream, a psychotic episode or an intervention based in reality?

We all yearn for truth and want to discover the hidden meanings beneath it all, but simultaneously we dread facing it. Do we really want to see and know everything?
