THE COLORIST ORCHESTRA & HOWE GELB
Bio

Howe Gelb (Tucson, Arizona)’s music is often defined as Americana, but can’t be pinned down into one category. His music is best described as a mix of lo-fi, rock, folk, blues, noise and jazz. He created an impressive amount of albums with Giant Sand (1985-2018), released numerous solo albums, and has
multiple side projects (e.g. OP8, Giant Giant Sand, The Band of Blacky Ranchette, Arizona Amp and Alternator). Gelb is a cult figure, a true musical explorer and a skilled songwriter, which awards him with impressive credibility in the international music scene. Howe Gelb, although a mystery to many, is the ultimate troubadour with unmatched writing skills, with a breathtaking voice and striking charisma. He’s a multifaceted live artist to be discovered, over and over again. It comes as no surprise that he collaborated with artists such as Vic Chesnutt, Bonnie Prince Billy, M.Ward, Isobel Cambell, PJ Harvey, Victoria Williams,…. Aarich and Kobe met Howe Gelb at a jazz festival in Liège (Mithra Jazz). Their shared thirst for adventure, encouraged by mutual musician friends, drives their need for a joint musical adventure.
The Colorist Orchestra digs into Gelb’s endless repertoire, reconstructs and translates his songs into the ever evolving and unconventional Colorist language of sound. They sculpt new arrangements around Howe’s timbre and storytelling, and paint them in exciting new colors. They also revisit instrumental Colorist compositions, and let melody and lyrics melt into Howe’s extraordinary universe. An encounter between The Colorist Orchestra and Howe Gelb was destined to take place. It’s an absolute must to discover and cherish this collaboration. It’s an on stage momentum to look forward to.
